The Chicken Coop Chronicles

I asked my wife to share her latest installment of “The Chicken Coop Chronicles” from her blog (6starrs.blogspot.com) over here. Over at her blog she shares about our life together as a family of 6 trying to live well as missionaries in the inner city of Denver, as a home educating family, as friends and neighbors and as fledgling urban farmers. She’s a great photographer and blogger and the best wife ever.

Anyway, here’s her latest on us getting our fine feathered ladies into their coop. Thanks Rose.

Last Sunday Desi and Micah went to Home Depot to get locks and shingles…they got an amazing deal on these shingles…$4! They finished up with the locks and roof.

On Monday Emma and I went to get the chickens big water and feed containers…they made the port a crib seem so small! I love these pics :) Hi Daisy!

Charlotte, you are too close to the lens.

Yesterday we all worked together for “The BIG Backyard Clean Up”. Our yard has been incredibly messy and really more of a construction zone than anything else. So, we cleaned it all up and had dinner on our picnic table before moving the girls to their coop.

The completed coop!

Our tidy backyard!

Our natural roost…those are large roots dug up from the maple tree that was in our front yard.

Adding the pine bedding…

The finished hen house complete with the new feeder :) That bright spot is the sunlight.

We walked each chicken out and put them in the run. This is pretty Sarah.

The girls hung out and happily explored their new digs. Micah helped them get into the hen house when it got dark. They did just fine their first night and seem quite happy to be outdoors!

Thanks again to Micah for your invaluable help with this whole process! ~Rose
